Leica is on a high after group sales shot up 57.3% over the past year, largely boosted by demand for the firm’s M and S camera systems.

Leica Camera AG’s net income increased ten-fold, from €3.2 million last year to €30.4m in the 12 months to 31 March 2011.

In a statement, Leica’s German HQ said: ‘The positive development is mainly due to the continuing strong demand for the Leica M system, the professional S system, the compact cameras and the Leica sport optics products.’

The good news means Leica shareholders stand to receive a total dividend payout of around €5m.
