Olympus has announced that a new, Four Thirds-based, 12.3-million-pixel digital SLR called the E-30 will go on sale in mid-January.
Positioned between the enthusiast-level E-520 and high-end E-3 cameras, features will include a top shutter speed of 1/8000sec and a burst rate of five frames per second.
The E-30 camera is also expected to include a high-speed 11-point AF system and built-in image stabilisation claimed to deliver the equivalent of up to 5EV of effective compensation.
Also on board are six 'Art Filters', for creation of effects such as 'Grainy Film' and 'Pinhole'. The latter aims to reduce peripheral brightness to simulate the effects of a pinhole camera.
The E-30 also incorporates nine different aspect ratios to individualise the framing of scenes, with the chosen framing viewable on the camera's Live View monitor.
These include 16:9, 7:5 and 6:6 formats.
Olympus has also announced a new 14-54mm f/2.8-3.5 Four Thirds lens with 'High-Speed Imager AF', designed to allow photographers to preview the effects of the E-30's Art Filter effects in 'real time' on the camera's Live View screen.
Prices have yet to be announced.
