Nikon workers walk out amid pay row

Forget rail strikes and grounded BA planes. Thousands of workers at a Nikon factory in Thailand have downed tools in a row over pay and staff benefits, according to a report in the Bangkok Post.

The newspaper reports that staff at Nikon (Thailand) Co are staging a rally to demand improved benefits, as they strike for a second day.

The workers are demanding a 60% wage increase (from 50-80 baht per shift), plus a 300 baht rise in their living cost allowance.

The paper quotes Nikon labour union chairman Thongchai Sitthidet who said that around 8,000 production line workers would stop work until management 'respond to their demands'.

Amateur Photographer had yet to receive a comment from Nikon's UK office at the time of writing.
