MPs' photographs set new record

Politicians have entered a record number of images in the annual battle for photographic supremacy in the Houses of Parliament.

The Jessops Parliamentary Photography Competition attracted a record 600 submissions – five times more than two years ago and 200 more than last year.

The public will be given the chance to vote for their favourite images later this year.

Conservative MP Alan Duncan is among those hoping to win honours in the contest with his picture entitled 'Praying Mantis' and 'Horizon' (below).

Labour MPs Austin Mitchell and Nick Raynsford are also in with a shout.

Meanwhile, the House of Lords is going for glory with pictures captured by peers Lord Crathorne and Lord Greenway.

The six best pictures, to be selected by judges later this month, will each win £100, which will go towards CLIC Sargent.

The best photos will then be turned into a calendar with the proceeds going to the charity.

The public will be given a chance to vote for their favourite pictures via the website of the contest's sponsor, Jessops (www.jessops.com).
