A 25% boost in sales of Leica compact cameras led to a 7.3% surge in the group's turnover for the year to 31 March 2008.
Sales of compact cameras shot up by €10.1m to €49.5m, with the D-Lux 3, C-Lux 2 and V-Lux models named as the star performers, according to financial statements released yesterday.
Meanwhile, sales of Leica's M8 digital rangefinder and lens system increased by €3.6m to €57.2m.
In contrast, sales of sports optics equipment such as binoculars fell 3.1% to €29.7m.
Leica Camera AG's total sales rose from €145.7m in 2007, to €156.2m this year.
Net income stood at €3m, compared with the €0.5m figure achieved by the group last year.
