A selection of the 100 images that will make up the Wildlife Photographer of the Yearu2019s 50th anniversary exhibition have been revealed by organisers.

They include a photo of a bat occupying a destroyed World War II bunker in a remote forest in Poland (see above).

The image, called ‘Winter hang-out’, was captured by Łukasz Bożycki.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition opens at the Natural History Museum in London on 24 October.

At its launch in 1965, the contest attracted just 361 entries. Today it pulls in almost 42,000.
