Forty images have been plucked from more than 7,000 entries captured by amateur photographers.

The shortlisted photos are set to go on show at the Destinations 2016 travel show at Olympia, London from 4-7 February.

The overall winner is due to be announced on 5 February.

Lyn Hughes, editor-in-chief of Wanderlust magazine said: ‘Every year, I am in awe of the high standard of photography and how inspired and passionate the travellers who captured these images are.’

Hughes added: ‘As always, it will be incredibly difficult to pick a winner from this fantastic shortlist.’

The four best amateurs will win a photo commission to Australia, and the overall winner of the portfolio segment will pocket £3,000.

The best entries were first showcased at the Destinations 2016 event in Manchester earlier this month.
