Sigma has today officially announced the development of lenses for Micro Four Thirds and Sony E-mount camera systems, as demand for such models soars.

‘As demand for compact system cameras increases, we intend to meet the requirements of users and develop new lenses for these systems, utilising advanced interchangeable lens development technology,’ the firm said in a statement.

Product details have yet to be announced, though a mock-up will go on show at the CP+ show in Japan which opens today, according to Sigma.

The news comes a day after Sony said it planned to reveal ‘basic specifications’ for the E-mount, used in its NEX cameras, to third-party lens manufacturers.

Sony said the move would ‘open the way’ for Sigma, Zeiss, Tamron and Cosina to make compatible lenses and mount adapters.
