PRESS RELEASE

The Event Photography Awards 2015 is pleased to announce its talented haul of finalists across seven brand-new categories for the competition, now in its second year.

Competition was fierce for this year’s awards, designed to celebrate clever capturing of experiences and moments at all types of events. With double the number of entries this year and a powerhouse panel of judges appointed to critique and marvel at the story book of photographs submitted, hopeful photographers didn’t fail to wow and stun with artful and often perfectly timed event snapshots.

‘New categories for 2015 captured the imagination of both amateur and professional photographers,’ said Philip Atkins, managing director of staffing agency Off to Work and the founder of the awards. ‘Images ranged from revealing captures of personal moments at private weddings and behind-the-scenes preparation for corporate events, to energetic action shots at sporting events, gigs and festivals.

‘Judges were looking for photographs that freeze-framed the essence of producing or experiencing live events and we decided to remove the professional-amateur divide to judge each photo entirely on its content and technique.’

Judging, which took place at the Barbican in March, saw the panel split into five groups and each draw up their top five favourite photos within each of the seven categories. The five highest scoring photos across all groups’ top five shortlists formed the eventual top five finalists announced here in each category.

Photographers will have to wait and see who triumphs as winner and runners-up in each category, plus who secures the kudos of having their picture named overall Best Event Photography of the Year. Winners will be announced at a VIP awards evening at the Barbican on 16 April.

All the winning photographs will once again be displayed, with the help of sponsor Perton Signs, at Square Meal’s Venues & Events Live exhibition at Old Billingsgate in September.
