Video production skills are ?essential? for budding press photographers, say organisers of a new Foundation Degree in Press Photography course, which starts in September.

The Grimsby-based course is being put together by The Press Association (PA) and The Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education?s East Coast Media Centre.

A spokesman for the news agency said: ?The course is being offered to fulfil the industry?s need for graduating photographers who have essential skills specific to press photography, including video production, digital processing and how to operate on a pictures desk.?

The full-time course lasts two academic years, though it can be studied on a part-time basis over a longer period.

PA tell us the course costs £2,000 per year and is also open to ?mature students’.

PA?s Group picture editor Martin Keene said: ?We hope the course will ensure that the next generation of press photographers will be better equipped than ever before with the skills that they need for a successful career in this rapidly evolving industry.?

Course co-ordinator Jez Goffin added: ?Whether they are straight from college or have been working in the industry already, this course is designed to meet the needs of a diverse range of applicants.?
