Two photographers working for the Mail on Sunday were ?viciously beaten by masked youths? during violence in Tottenham on Saturday, the newspaper has reported.

One of the photographers at the scene of the disturbances – who the paper did not name – said: ?It is utter carnage out there. We have been beaten up quite badly and had about £8,000 of equipment stolen.

?We were quite discreet but as soon as we got a camera out we were set on by youths with masks who were armed with crowbars.?

Meanwhile, reporters were threatened by looters wearing balaclavas and one was ?chased down a side street and struck on the head with a rock?.

More than 150 people have been arrested in connection with the violence in Tottenham on Saturday and in other areas of London last night, leaving more than 30 police officers injured.

Speaking this morning, Commander Christine Jones of the Metropolitan Police said: ?We will not tolerate this disgraceful violence. The investigation continues to bring these criminals to justice.?
