An amateur photographer from East Sussex has beaten 3,000 entries to bag a trip to a whisky distillery, £2,500 cash, and the chance to have his image published as a postcard.

Laurence Cartwright from Hove triumphed in the ‘Wish You Were Here’ contest, which was organised by Old Pulteney Highland Single Malt Scotch whisky in association with Amateur Photographer and The Sunday Express.

‘Never in a million years did I imagine I would win,’ said Laurence on hearing the news.

Judges said Laurence’s photo of Brighton beach entitled, ?Sunstar over West Pier?, captured ‘the beauty and romance of the British seaside, great composition and fantastic use of light’.

‘Waiting for the Fish’ by Mike Shaw took the runner-up spot, while Michael Gibson’s shot of Torquay Pier came third.
