A photograph of a nude Carla Bruni has sold for nearly four times its pre-sale estimate at an auction in Germany this afternoon.

A photograph of a nude Carla Bruni has sold for ?13,090 (around £11,500) at an auction in Germany this afternoon.

The 1994 photo of the French President’s wife – entitled ‘Carla Bruni in Bed’, by photographer Pamela Hanson – was sold in the form of a gelatin silver print.

It had been expected to raise up to ?3,500 (around £3,000), as part of an auction of modern and contemporary photographs at the Villa Grisebach Auction in Berlin.

Earlier today, the auction house said the picture had raised ?11,000. However, the final sale figure has since been confirmed as ?13,090.
