Pentax appears to have hinted that it may launch a full-frame DSLR later this year.

The suggestion emerged in a tweet purportedly posted by Pentax Australia, in response to a question posed by Hong Kong-based Pentax user Sam Wong.

In his tweet, Wong had asked: ‘A Pentax FF DSLR is coming??’

Pentax Australia replied: ‘This very well might be the year! Hold onto those lenses.’

Earlier today, a spokesman for Pentax Ricoh Imaging UK said the firm was checking the authenticity of the Pentax Australia twitter account.

The company declined to comment further.

However, a link to the twitter account – which includes the tweet in question – appears on the home page of the Pentax Australia website.

In an interview with Amateur Photographer last year, Pentax underlined the importance of a full DSLR range but remained tight-lipped when asked whether we can expect a full-frame camera.

re: “And TAKE NOTE PENTAX if you do produce another mirrorless camera please put a proper viewfinder in it because real photographers prefer to use these!”

At least put in a high grade rear display that can be seen easily in bright light. I returned mine after a few shots in bright sunlight. Couldn’t see a thing in that k-01 display.

Well lets hope that Pentax /Ricoh produce a mirrorless FF that can compete with the likes of Sony RX1, Fuji X1-Pro/XE1/X100s,Leica M9 etc.
Personally I think that they (Pentax)already have one off the best DSLRs on the market with K5 range.
DSLRs are probably not now the way forward, FF or Aps-c.
And TAKE NOTE PENTAX if you do produce another mirrorless camera please put a proper viewfinder in it because real photographers prefer to use these !

Great to hear Pentax may be offering a full frame DSLR. If only they would do one with a rotable monitor. I would buy one immediately if they did so thta I could use all my existing Pentax lenses.

IF Pentax release a FF DSLR, I’ll be happy to junk Canon and Nikon.
    Why?
Because they get it right every time.
First with IDM in a SLR the Pentax LX, First with sensitivity shift program in a camera the K10D. First with genuine fully weather sealed SLR the K10D. First with sensor shift DSLR for operation with M42 lenses.
