Images entered into the Olympus Global Open Photo Contest 2015 can originate from any make or type of photographic device, including smartphones.

The Grand Prize is one million yen (around £5,400) and an Olympus Pen camera. There will be 14 other prizes, plus a ‘viewers’ raffle’.

There are four categories: Life (Birth); Future (Places to Preserve); People (Smiles and Laughter); Technical (Macro and Art). Up to five entries per person are allowed per theme.

The stated rules do not explicitly limit future use of entries to promotion of the competition.

However, Olympus has assured Amateur Photographer that entries will only be used in the context of the competition.

The competition closes on 20 November 2015 and entries must be submitted online, requiring entrants to register on the contest website.

The overall winner will be announced in February 2016.
