Nikon has today unveiled the 12.2-million-pixel Coolpix P7700, an u2018expertu2019-level compact camera sporting an f/2 lens and 3in vari-angle LCD screen.

Priced £499.99, features include a top equivalent ISO sensitivity of 6400, raw-format shooting, full HD video and a maximum burst rate of eight frames per second.

Nikon UK Consumer Products manager James Loader claimed: ‘The new lens has a broad 28-200mm focal range and fast f/2.0-4.0 aperture – working with the highly sensitive 1/1.7in CMOS sensor to deliver clear, detailed images in any light.

‘Meanwhile, the new vari-angle LCD monitor gives a unique perspective on your shot, whether you are shooting stills or video.’

Wireless image transfer is possible using Eye-Fi X2 cards, or later.

The Coolpix P7700 is due out in the UK on 27 September.

This camera is being advertised for $499 in the US. The price in the UK? £499. Even accounting for the fact that the UK price includes VAT where the US price does not include sales tax, Nikon UK continue to rip off their customers by charging much higher prices than elsewhere. There is no excuse for it, just plain profiteering. I will not be buying.
