Arnold Newman - considered to be one of the great masters of portrait photography - has died aged 88, his agency Getty Images confirmed this afternoon.

Arnold Newman – considered to be one of the great masters of portrait photography – has died aged 88, his agency Getty Images announced this afternoon.

The American, who died yesterday after a short illness, photographed some of the most famous figures in politics, business and the arts over a 65-year career during which time he worked for magazines such as Life and Newsweek. His famous subjects included John F Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe.

Newman?s funeral will take place in his birthplace, New York City tomorrow (8 June).
