Jessops notched up a 10.4% increase in sales for the six months to 2 April during which time it opened 10 new stores.

Jessops reported group sales of £178m for the half-year period. Total digital camera sales shot up by 15% in value, with digital SLRs sales rising by 53% in value terms.

Digital camera sales accounted for 48% of the company?s sales, compared to 45% in 2005, according to the group which – for the first time ? reported that the growth in digital photo processing ?offset the continuing decline in traditional film processing?. Digital photo processing went up by 49% and the total value of d&p grew by 4.9%.

The chain ? which now runs 288 shops ? reported a like-for-like sales increase of 2.3%. Like-for-like figures exclude the effect of such factors such as company expansion during the year, to provide comparable sales figures.

Commenting on the results the group?s chief executive Chris Langley (pictured) said that Jessops has continued to leverage Jessops? leadership position in the digital photography market despite the ?tough retail environment?.
