The Italian foreign office has denied a newspaper report suggesting that a photographer has been arrested in Cairo, rebutting a report issued by Egyptian state television earlier in the day.

Last night Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported that an Italian national was detained after photographing a military building from the 6th October Bridge in the city.

The Italian Embassy in Cairo has since suggested that the Middle East News

Agency (MENA) may have been referring to a previous case which has since been resolved.

However, it was also reported that a tourist was stopped while taking pictures in Cairo and released later in the day.
