Young?s Cameras has reportedly gone into voluntary liquidation with the loss of its three stores.

The company has closed its shops in Leicester, Loughborough and Kings Lynn with the loss of 12 staff, according to thisisleicestershire.co.uk

?Young?s has been a high-street name in Leicester since 1793 when Joseph Young opened his first shop, a chemist, in Gallowtree Gate,? states the report.

Commenting on the Leicester store closure Managing director Mike Woodford told thisisleicestershire.co.uk: ‘The recession has hit many businesses but what really did it for us was The Highcross shopping centre opening. Footfall in this part of town dropped dramatically.’

He added: ‘We are trying to contact a few customers to return their films but that’s it.’

No-one from Young’s was available for comment at the time of writing.

Phone calls made to all three stores this morning remained unanswered.
