Photographers who fancy a crack at this year?s Garden Photographer of the Year competition are being urged to get their entries in by 31 January 2008.

Organisers have confirmed that the total prize pot is now worth more than £25,000, with the overall winners pocketing the top prize of £5,000 cash.

There are five categories: Plant Portraits, My Garden, Garden Views, Life in the Garden and Trees.

The contest is open to amateurs and professionals and costs £10 per category to enter up to four images in any of the single image categories; and £20 per category to enter up to six themed pictures in the portfolio section.

It is free to enter up to five images in the Young Garden Photographer contest (one per category).

Judges include renowned garden photographer Clive Nichols.

A £5,000 prize will each be awarded to the winner of the single image and best portfolio categories.

Entries must be uploaded to www.gpoty.org which includes the full terms and conditions.

Organisers say images scanned from transparencies or negatives are welcome.
