Fujifilm has unwrapped an ?SLR-style? camera with an ?18x? optical zoom in the shape of the FinePix S8000fd, due for UK release in September.
Boasting a resolution of 8.3-million-pixels, the S8000fd boasts CCD-shift image stabilisation technology, Face Detection, 16 scene modes and 2.7in LCD screen.
It is powered by AA batteries and will be available in UK stores in ?mid-September? at a price yet to be announced.
Features include a maximum equivalent ISO of 6400 (at 4MP setting).
The on-board Fujinon lens is claimed to deliver the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 27-486mm zoom.
Firepower includes Intelligent Flash, designed to control output to achieve foreground illumination with balanced background exposure.
Real Photo Technology aims to combine features, such as Face Detection, to improve overall image quality.
Fujifilm claims the camera can deliver up to 15 frames per second at 2MP resolution.
The newcomer includes 58MB of internal memory and is compatible with xD-Picture Card, SD and SDHC storage media.
Exposure modes include aperture and shutter priority and manual, while close-up focusing is possible down to 1cm, claims Fuji. Manual focusing is also included.
The camera records images in JPEG format and weighs around 410g, not including batteries and memory card.
? Fujifilm has also announced the 8MP FinePix F480, the 9MP A920, ?ultra slim? 8MP Z100fd, 7.2MP Z10fd and ?12MP? F50fd. Details of these compacts will appear in forthcoming issues of AP.
