The winner will accompany award-winning press photographer Owen Humphreys to a location in Africa or Asia to photograph the Little Hearts Project for the charity.

The Little Hearts Project provides free lifesaving cardiac surgery for children from underprivileged families with congenital heart defects in developing countries.

Entrants are challenged to submit images on the subject ‘An Act of Kindness’.

They must have been taken this year, and the deadline for entries is 22 January 2016.

Owen Humphreys, who visited Bangladesh for Muntada Aid earlier this year, explained how he arrived in the country with a dedicated team of volunteer doctors, surgeons and other medical professionals, ahead of the children and their families.

‘Families with their desperately ill children had travelled from all parts of the country,’ he said.

‘Some families arrived from the poorest shantytowns with no financial backing, and others travelled for days to save or prolong their child’s life.’

The Press Association photographer said a personal highlight was seeing the faces of the parents after their child had received their operation – ‘from photographing them looking so sad and desperate when they arrived, to the look of joy and hope for the future on their faces as their child recovered from the operation’.
