The vending machine – traditionally the domain of chocolate bars, crisps and canned drinks ? now dispenses memory cards.

Memory card maker Kingston Technology has installed the first three such machines at Gatwick airport?s North Terminal and plans to roll them out nationwide to places such as railway stations.

The machines currently dispense Kingston Technology?s SD and CompactFlash memory cards and DataTraveler USB drives.

Developed in partnership with retailer My Memory the machines have been launched in response to consumer demand for ?instant access to SD cards and USB drives as they need them 24/7,? says Ann Keefe, Kingston Technology?s director of sales for UK & Ireland.

She added that consumers are after greater storage for their mobile phone and digital cameras.
