Deciding who are the best photographers to follow on Twitter can make for some hard decisions. In this article, Sarah Rae rounds up her favourite photographers to follow

We have rounded up some of our favourite photographers who offer insightful tips and advice to get the best out of your camera. Not forgetting the photographers who share their best work on Twitter to give you some photography inspiration.

1. Rankin – @rankinphoto


Dropping out of his accountancy degree at Brighton Polytechnic, Rankin knew his real passion lay in photography. After thirty successful years photographing pop-culture icons and helped shape the fashion photography world, Rankin has shown us how a person’s personality can be captured in one portrait shot.

Rankin is an avid Twitter user and updates his feed regularly with portrait shots of famous celebrities, capturing their unique style and distinct personalities.

2. Penden + Munk – @pedenmunk


Are you are bored of finding your Twitter feed full of pictures of boring lunches? Penden + Munk are two food photographers that will easily change your perception of Twitter lunches. The two partners, Taylor Peden and Jen Munkvold artistically capture food imagery, leaving you wanting more. 

Having a small Twitter following of only one hundred and thirty, Penden + Munk are ones to watch in food photography.

3. Brooke Shaden – @brookeshaden


Brooke is a fine art photographer who has grown into a self-portrait artist. Her passion lies in creating new worlds through photographs.

By using painterly techniques as well as the square format, Brooke’s imagery extends beyond the realm of the camera, creating images that resemble paintings and era’s that are not our own. Her fantasy style of photography has an inspiring quality that is a must-have in any twitter feed.

4. Ami Vitale – @Amivee


Ami is a National Geographic photographer and an official Nikon ambassador. She is a photojournalist who has travelled to eighty-five countries and has had her photographs exhibited around the world.

Recently, she has been working on creating powerful and persuasive films illustrating problems women face in developing countries. Her work is usually very intimate and being a Nikon ambassador she uses Nikon bodies and Nikkor lenses. Her workhorse is the 24-70mm or the fixed 24mm 1.8. Ami’s twitter feed is full to the brim of powerful imagery and thought provoking shots.

5. Holly Booth – @hollyphotobooth


Holly is a product photographer who specialises in working with independent makers, designers, crafters & shops. Holly injects personality and creativity into her photographs creating beautiful, galvanising imagery.

Holly also writes regular blog posts giving you product style tips and advice.

6. Michael Yamashita – @YamashitaPhoto


Working on an assignment for a long time or trying to find inspiration from the same product can be frustrating. After spending several years in Asia, Michael Yamashita demonstrates how a large amount of time spent on a project one can effortlessly capture the essence and atmosphere of your muse.

7. Richard Sibley – @RichSibley


Our Deputy Editor, Richard Sibley often tweets from his own account about what he’s up to on the magazine, what cameras he’s testing and other photography related thoughts.

Jerry’s photography has a vintage glamour that seems to capture the natural magic of his subjects wedding day. A feed full of advice and creative imagery – he is one to follow for advice and creative inspiration.

Based in Atlanta, Zack Arias has been working in the music industry for over a decade.  His Twitter feed is full of images, advice and the latest bands to watch. He regularly updates his feed with his simple and bold style of photography, commenting on framing, composition and timing.
