Prizes to be won plus your chance to have your picture on the front cover

Be a cover star!

Would you like to see
one of your images in print, on the cover of the world’s no1 weekly photography
magazine? If so, read on…

AP is looking for a
photograph taken by an AP reader to feature on the cover of this year’s Christmas Special (AP 21-28 December). We want a picture that typifies the
season, so it could be a snowy landscape, the northern lights, winter wildlife
- in fact, anything that you think best illustrates the festive season. It
could be an image that you already have on file or maybe you want to spend time
thinking about an idea and then go out to shoot it. Try to avoid the usual
Christmas cliché images, though, as we’re looking for something stunning and
eye-catching.

As the image will
appear on the front cover of the issue, there are a few other things to
consider when planning or selecting your photograph:

  1. The image should be
    in portrait format
  2. It should have a
suitable area in the upper quarter of the image on which to place the AP logo
  3. It should also have a
similar area elsewhere on which headlines can be placed
  4. While a
low-resolution image will be required initially, a high-resolution image of at
least 3,500 pixels along its longest edge will be needed for publication
  5. See above and below for example covers

And don’t think you
only have to submit one picture. If you have a selection of images that you
think might be suitable, send them all.

Make sure you
send us your ph

otographs by Saturday 30 November 2013.

All you have to do is
upload your images to the ‘Christmas cover competition’ Gallery by Saturday 30 November 2013 and we will
consider each and every one.

If we think your photograph is suitable for the AP
front cover, we will inform you by private message on the website requesting a high resolution image file, so you may want to consider adjusting your setting to be informed of the private message.

If your image is chosen to appear on the cover, you will receive a
payment of £200, plus a *Camlink CMP1 Monopod and
a Kata DR 467i Digital Rucksack together worth over £100.

That’s all t

here is to

your pic

Bah! You say: “An RGB file, of at least 3,500 pixels along its longest edge, will be required in order to publish the image in the magazine.” Unfortunately, I can’t afford a camera that has that resolution. Correction: my Samsung ES9 can make large enough images, but that’s a compact. My DSLR, a Nikon D70, won’t do it. So, I either don’t enter the competition or I use my compact! Shame… I’m being priced out of the competition; I just hope APOY doesn’t follow suit and make large files mandatory. Never had this problem when everyone used film…
