Digitally simulating paper grades
You can do this using software called Power Retouche Black & White Studio. This is not a stand-alone piece of software, but a plug-in for software that supports Adobe Photoshop plug-ins, including Adobe Photoshop Elements and Corel Paint Shop Pro.
Among the many features of the plug-in is the option to change the contrast of an image using a digital equivalent of multi-grade filtering. Other features include the replication of different types of black & white films and coloured filters.
Black & White Studio received an impressive four stars when we reviewed it in AP 7 June 2008. It costs £31. To buy visit www.powerretouche.com.
