Here and elsewhere I'm seeing/hearing a huge amount of bah humbug relating to the Olympics. And am interested in why this is so? I've always loved the Olympics - even as a kid. While not being particularly interested in most of the sports (especially athletics) I do enjoy Sport in the more general sense. The Olympics for me is a fantastic festival of Sport, a celebration of the dedication and sheer effort of every single competitor to be the best that they can be. I also enjoy the international element of it. outside of politics how often is it that so many representatives from so many nations gather together for one event. And then once the competition starts I will inevitably get drawn in to the overall competition part of it. How many medals have team GB won, what do we need to win.... and will end up watching fencing or some other sport I don't understand because there is a crucial medal to be won. All in all a completely fabulous couple of weeks every 4 years, this year being even more fabulous than usual because it's going on here. So what is there not to love about it?
