    I'd like to go punting!

David - would you like to go punting? ;)

To those who feel that £50 is a lot of money for this, of course it might be if you just don't want to spend £50 on a day out, but in terms of similar products it's a bargain. You would normally have to pay more like double that for a special photography day at a zoo or other wildlife centre with privileged access to enclosures.

FWIW, it sounds as though the BWC is much improved since I went there a few years ago. My access day cost me £75, and I more than recouped that, and my travel costs, and had a good sum left over from just the first picture sale! The figure there is gross - obviously it was quite a lot less after deductions, but it still cleared £150. :)

Mind you, it was the only picture sale I had from that day - I haven't exactly made a lot of effort to market my photography, so it might have been much more profitable than it was.

So, really, it's up to you - £50 is a bargain, even if you get no group reduction. It's a long way for me, but if I were closer I'd definitely do it again.

Here's the thread from my, Neil, and Natalie's visit back in 2003. The picture links are all broken because I've changed ISPs since then, but I've rumaged around in my hard disks and uploaded them again - they're too big for current image posting rules, so here they are as links, for any one who is interested.

Nicely argued, Huw. Not sure I've got the kit to make the best of it but, hell, why not? I was already seriously considering spending much the same sort of money for a one day workshop with the NT's photographer later in the year anyway.

Pam, put me down as a possible!

£50 doesn't seem too bad. I stumbled across this month's PP ;) and prices start at £95 to £128 (although that includes tuition and workshop).

Sure - of course I don't mind. I didn't check all of them for size - once I figured out there were some that were too big I just linked them all, but obviously that was one that I could have got away with anyway.

I've now found the few pictures that Peter Smart of WildArena sent me to post - more of the squirrel escapade. I'm afraid I don't know who took them though - not Peter, because he's in two of them. Natalie Ford (formerly of this forum) is in the first one.

Was the squirrel after the nuts in the last photo?

Well I don't know, but Peter's face suggested he was more than a little concerned. :)

It's not the actual cost that puts me off (see my previous post), but my ability to pay it! That and the fact that there'd be four of us!

Pam, I am interested and would probably stay overnight as its a long way from me. I would have to bring the mrs and she wont be taking photos ( just lugging my gear ;) ) I wonder if they would take that into consideration when charging etc. ... nice pics Hew. :)

Excellent! :D I'll give it a few more days for stragglers to put their names down and then I'll have a better idea of numbers to conjure with.

Could a Mod stickify this, please?

If it's mid week (Tues - Thurs) I'd be certainly interested. One of my best customers are based just outside Crawley so I'd get my travel and accommodation paid if I could schedule a meeting on either the previous or following days.

    Cheers Huw.
I know you're reply wasn't directed to just me.
I know £50 isn't a lot for a day like this and as you rightly point out a lot of things like this cost an awful lot more (see the advert in last weeks AP, p111, dated 10th March where the same day costs £99, presumably with a tutor)

In reality I'm just a tightwad who is loathe to spend money. :D
