Yeah, my brother went down there a few times with the Crawley Sub-Aqua club!

Seems a popular destination - I think its quite safe for beginner divers.

Close in it can be safe, but once across the bar, and Start point, it can be very dodgy.

On many a dive with the rip running I reakon we went right across the bar on 20min dive at about 10-15M Was fun mind.

have been envolved in a couple of incedents when we were on station and to eliviate the RNLI.

One reason Swanage is so poplular is that there are a number good wreeks to dive.
It is reasonable for clubs in the SE to get to.

But at one point in the mid 70's diving clubs were baned from the boat park.

Only Watford Underwater managed to avoid the ban. Partly because we did not cause the problems that othere were responsabe for, namely leaving gutted fish lying around. Parking in boat owners bays, not paying fees. etc etc. Also WUC have a very good relationship with both the RNLI and HMCG. In fact I belive they may stil be Volunter members of the HMCG.

I think you can get a steam train to Corfe Castle from Swange too, so that's a massive extra bonus. I've been to the castle, but never to Swanage. I shall give it a look sometime.

The Swanage Railway is indeed still running and does so for most of the year. Their website is http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/
