On the whole some of my best shots have been taken over the dark months of GMT so winter is the nearest option...:)

Yup. As long as there's not miserable rain, it's my favourite season.

Except today! I made an exception - I went wandering in the woods at the castle and took a few. :)

My favourite for landscape and wildlife photography just has to be winter.

    Two reasons:

    (a) Sunrise and sunset at civilised times of the day.

    (b) Birds and mammals in winter plumage/coats.

It's lovely there when the sun does shine. Still about the coldest place I've been, even Orkney is warmer. ;) But some of those beaches you have are just perfect, and sometime, I want to go back and do a photo project on the machair.
And those woods by the castle are nice - a bit different to the rest of the landscape.

Machair is lovely. I like North Uist and Benbecula for that. The castle grounds are really quite an arboretum of some great species. Covers quite an acreage.
Uig on the west side is also lovely for hills and beaches as is Harris.

The season in not so important as is what is going on at the time.
Like the weather, the season, is some thing to either cope with or take advantage of.

This year, the season with less flies!

I do quite like this time of year though.....

Been there (Glentress) a couple of time last week but it looks like autumn is taking a little longer this year. Might head down tomorrow although Roslin Glen can be rather pretty this time of year too......tough choice:D

It depends where I am. In Western Scotland it has to be November to early May. Any one who has been there outside of those months will know why.

It's strange to hear you two talking this way, you used to say that to me Nick before Kate signed up!

I say strange because I'm currently off the island, and down in Warwickshire for a funeral. Hence the surprise to see the discussion between you two.

Only this morning, I was talking to someone and complaining about the weather (it's drab, dismal and nothing is happening, like its gone to sleep), only to e told that "this is normal", and I thought it was cold! Give me wind and rapidly changing dramatic conditions any day! Kate, please remind me of that after our first storm.

I'm certainly missing your view across the inner harbour from Bayhead, and I thought of you when I passed your house in glorious weather on the way to Tiumpan Head on Tuesday.

As for cold Nick, I remember travelling down here to Warwick about 10 years ago, only to be embarrassed to find I had nothing to scrape the ice from the windscreen first thing, I'd just got out of the habit! Having said what I have, I'm enjoying seeing trees, especially at this time of year, hoping to get to Combe Abbey to see some more before I go home for the winter.

I'll be back on the island before too long, maybe we should share a walk in the Castle Grounds Kate?

Edit: Sorry, just taken note that this isn't the Lounge.

Now that's funny, as I'm here in Warwickshire too. Would rather be there whatever the temperature. ;)

Thank you! I'd love to meet up and have a walk and coffee!
I get tired trying to explain how it is here, so now I don't really bother. Like you, I've been plenty places where it has been colder, for example, including London!
The storms do get to me - more so now, living on my own, but I'm here to stay.
