Poll - Do you think AP should publish artistic nude....

I reply with fear of hate mail. My one and only nude won some points in APOY 2009 round 9 and so was published. I thought it would recede into the haze of past, but checking just now it seems to be the most viewed in the APOY over four years. Is this a realistic poll? I hope it is regarded as artistic.

Prompted by another thread I quickly scanned one of my bookshelves and came across Lucille Khormak. I would think that her nude shoots would be acceptable provided it was clear that they were made by a 'she'.

I don't understand that in the slightest.

How could you discern the sex of a photographer by looking at a photograph that they had taken.

It's not so much what you can discern from a photograph - more what can be said about the origins of the photograph.

It's not a subject about which I would expect much agreement. But there is no harm in acknowledging that there can be multiple points of view.

    Of course you can't tell.
Its just that the feminist mafia tie themselves up in knots when they have to criticise female authors and artists. Khormak exhibits as much male, female, and not quite what flesh as any. Some of her work is both artistic and witty. She is certainly as much value as BCC for an article.

Michaelangelo's David displays a penis <<gasp!!!>> and that seems to be socially acceptable, even in this country. But would a David with an erect penis ever be considered art? Indeed, can you display an erect, human penis in public in the UK or is it against the law?

Get hold of a reproduction of the Bayeux Tapestry and examine the lower border carefully - you will find just such, and two ladies with big grins n their faces!

Why not go to Tesco and try it, Alan. I would be interested in the result.

I think there is a difference between female nude photographs as art and female arched-back erotic poses purporting to be Art - however tastefully and cleverly lit.

Do I recall correctly that one of the famous 'Page 3' photographers was Beverley Goodway? A first name that is gender-neutral but more usually associated as female. Didn't seem to make his photography any more or less popular with various individuals and groups.

Photographers aren't all dirty old men in raincoats anymore. One sees a lot more females taking photographs these days- indeed the famous page 3 is mostly shot by women now - since the "grand old man retired". As long as the images are tasteful and not smutty- really it's up to AP's editorial team to decide- I personally don't have a problem with it. Kids can access really horrible images online too easily now, so I don't think they would buy AP to be titillated. It will remain a source of information and inspiration -and as long as there are relevant articles every week, will appeal to beginners aswell . I'm so pleased it is still published weekly.

Like No.2 for April 2? I thought that photo quite artistic and pretty much in tune with Nigel's first category, 'Artistic Nude'. This particular web-site publishes a lot of porn and seems to be very popular. Perhaps AP should show a lot more pics like No.3 from 1 April? I liked that one. ;):D

Echo that. Hope Frances is doing as well as possible health-wise. Nudge her to join in the Forum sometimes, Roger!

You could have edited out the smudge on the wall to the right of the subject's breast!

No smudges in the one I recommended: No.3 from 1 April. But I think I would have moved the subject closer, forward to camera. ;)

Not a smudge on the wall but very poor post processing. I have since rescanned the slide with all the automatic gremlin removal turned on with much better results.

Agreed-can't beat really looking at the viewfinder / screen before pressing "go".

Sorry Robert- was replying to Ollybacker. I shudder when I look back at most of my post-processing !

Are we all looking at and talking about a rather beguiling photo of a M6 & 50mm Summicron on a window ledge?:p

Please do not publish any erotic (or semi-erotic) photos. At my age I need both hands to hold the magazine.
