My camera Canon 650D won't focus automatically

    Check (manual page 297) that C.Fn IV: Operation/Others is set to C.Fn-6 Shutter/AE lock button 0: AF/AE lock

    This should be the case if you followed post #10 (which is the answer to #7) and Cleared All Custom Fn.

    Check the lens is on correctly and the lens button is set to AF.

    I'm supposing that it doesn't even try to autofocus. If it tries and doesn't succeed then, if it is a telephoto with a range limiter, check this is full range.

    I suppose I should rule out that you haven't put a MF lens like the 17-40 L on the camera.

    Eh? The 17-40L is AF.

    True - brain not working - it lacks IS not MF apologies. But worth excluding the possibility. I missed some exchanges while I was looking at the 650 manual. The lens does sound at fault which is a shame.
