LIFEBOATS: two, fully enclosed, capacity of 110 (in addition to four life rafts, capacity of 100)

The life rafts may well save lives for a few minutes, but in antarctic waters not much longer. I guess that if the vessel sinks at least eight people are going to die. Objectively the safety provision is generous. But it does bring home the fact that a lifeboat capacity of 110 is considered very adequate for a ship's complement of of 116. In a real emergency it would be likely that only the lifeboat on one side would be launchable. These are better odds than on the Titanic. It would not put me off.
