Funny some have said she is the Thatcher of Germany or the "Iron Girl" because of her being from a centre right party and scientist :)

So are you a Thatcher supporter Willie45?

Note "centre right", not "far right". There is a bit of a difference.
And at least she was scientist, how many of our bunch of Tory would-be Nazis have any training in anything other than PPE?

Or perhaps Guy Verhofstadt would be a good choice?

I suspect you're being disingenuous Mr Stoddart :p I'm simply looking at the choices on offer for us in the UK and feeling a certain envy for the Germans at the moment. Also I can't find an awful lot to remind me of Mrs Thatcher in Ms Merkel.

Angela "would ban the wearing of burka in public" Merkel can gtf. Since when has the bar for being seen as a good leader been so low?

I'd invite alternative candidates. Who might they be?

I'm not a fan of burkas either BTW but that'd be a long thread and probably an even more tedious debate than Brexit

Clearly long before that. And anyway, I said "good" - and I have yet to meet anyone who calls her that!

Ah, but... at risk of appearing a little argumentative, you asked "when has the bar for being seen as a good leader been so low?".

There's nothing in my comment to imply that she (May) is a good leader - quite the opposite... :)

Fair enough. It rather threw me that someone who ran through the wheat fields could be seen as good.

Shall we establish criteria? Assuming a liberal democracy is what we want (other views are possible but in the main that seems to be the predominant view):
    • Opposed to aggression via war, imperialism, colonialism
    • Defender of minority rights
    • Supporter of human rights at home and abroad
    • Defender of the environment
Folk can chip in with others and nominees as they see fit.

Don't be silly, she's not a serious politician because [straw man reasons].

I'll second that. Sad to say, the list of politicians matching Zou's excellent criteria, appears to be limited to just one name... :(
