... 'cos there appears to be a shortage of group tests of these bits of kit
and I need a new one.
is there that much choice?
A quick look on Amazon suggests there is quite a choice, from single SC card readers up to multiple card readers.
Lexar Professional Multi-Card Dual Slot USB 3.0 (500 MB/s) Memory Card Reader
Is the reader I use, works fine and much faster with USB 3. Can't say I did much research beforehand.
I also use the Lexar card reader mentioned above - mainly because the slot for the cards is long, therefore the card is guided in straight before it ever gets to any of the pins and is less likely to result in bent pins.
I use this Kingston one, never had any issues.
Kingston USB 3.0 Hi-Speed Media Reader
I use one from Poundland. Price approx ..... £1
Even cheaper than mine.
Which was about £7 via Amazon - a Hama.
But it does claim to read 35 types/formats.
Mind you, it also claims to be marked down from £83.20!
I'm no fan of Lexar cards, but their readers are very good. My trusty USB2 one has never let me down, is quicker than any other reader of similar spec, and reads CF and SD cards nicely. At some point, I'll replace it with a more up-to-date version.
