Hello everyone. Newbie here! Just wondering if it was okay to submit a photo taken using my smartphone (LG G4), as I can't find anything in the rules specifically saying yes or no. I think it's a lovely picture of the frost on my car roof for the abstract, which I took when I was leaving to go to work one day (so I didn't run back upstairs to get my camera).

I believe so. If I recall correctly a round was won with a smartphone a couple of years ago.

Hello. re: round 2. Would 40mm be considered 'wide'?

My take on this is that they are more concerned with creative effect than with the actual focal length of the lens used - otherwise they would have specified limits.

In "normal" usage, 35mm or less was traditionally considered wide-angle on a 35mm film camera, so that should translate to 35mm on a full-frame digital, 24mm on a APS-C sensor or 17mm on a M4/3.

I think another subject would have been good this year.

    Pedestrian...
