our club has a double competition tonight. Both are on child portraiture with one trophy for mono and one for colour. I haven't taken many photos recently so worked on this one that I took about a year ago.

Not sure the pop-eyed expression is going to sell the picture, it's a touch disturbing I reckon...

    I think it's fantastic, personally.

I like it a lot but for me I would have just dropped the exposure a very slight tad....and good luck!

Love it. Bordering on high key, but that's OK with me. Best of luck.

Looks like the sort of kid that loves to freak you out (doubtless I've just been desperately rude about your dearest offspring). I reckon it's a shoo-in for the Taylor-Wessing.

How did you get on? I think it is a great pose, well captured.

She does like to freak me out (and is my offspring). She wasn't actually pulling a funny expression here; she just has big eyes. in the other one she actually has her eyes slightly closed. I got good comments on the mono but no placing. On the colour he said that the highlights on the cheeks were burnt out but it was actually just the way the light shone on the paper. no place there either unfortunately.

I don't know about winning, but I certainly thought they were worth a place. The standard in the mono category was pretty high but colour was disappointing.

A bit above his head probably. Who was the judge?

    Judge Jeffries, perhaps?
It was a fine image, btw.

It was an in-house competition so the judge was a club member (actually the club president).
