This could be quite interesting, or perhaps not, everyone seems to have their own idea of what 'abstract' means. My own definition is that it's simply something abstracted from life, the context removed, a small detail of what's in front of you and interesting for its shapes and colours. It can have clearly recognizable forms, a person, a building, whatever - but the interest of the image is in its colours, shapes and composition. So in its broadest sense, I suppose, every photograph is an abstract! Feel free to disagree with me. I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone puts their own spin on this.

Going through my files for examples I see I don't take as many abstracts as I thought :(

I like the middle one, Tony, it counts in my book. I'm a sucker for this sort of thing, one of the reasons I enjoy walking through industrial areas - and harder than it looks to keep all the lines straight!

Half the fun of this is trying to work out what it is! Just a guess, is it the tail light of a car? :(

Cheer up Alan, you can't be wrong all the time...;):D

Back end of a Renault of some sort IIRC...

Yup, and so far, no one's guessed correctly in various places about the marbled picture above.

I've sent a message to the mods, so hopefully this thread will get moved to "Forum Competition and Themes" fairly soon :)

I'm at work at the moment so I can't have a dig through all of my past stuff, but I think I'll throw this one up here to be going on with....

Probably well off the mark, it looks like steps but they're not all the same size and what's the light coming through?

    It's a mystery!

I'd go with steps too, though they could be fancy terracing, and judging by the style of the lighting effect I'm inclined to suspect there may be rippled water at the bottom reflecting light onto them.

Ornamental pond, lake or other water feature?

It's rippled water reflecting on something, but it's not stairs.

Oh! It's going to be one of those impossible months again. Great!
Here's some oldies until I take some more this month.

I can see this is going to be a great month!

As for the 'graveyard story', I feel I should know what I'm looking at but I'm totally baffled
and the 'green jelly' just doesn't make any sense! I like them :)

Graveyard story is lichen on an old gravestone. The sea air encourages the most gorgeous lichens.
Green jelly? Half a wine bottle on its side (and mirrored) with the reflection of the castle grounds woodlands. Just a bit of fun.
