Stock Photography

Apologies if this has been asked before -I did search but found no results.
I am interested in stock photography -If only as a means to pay for all that kit that I desperately 'need'!
Does anyone have any general advice? Which agency? What kind of photographs etc? I don't want to become a slave to it, but if it helps fund the photos that I really want to take then it seems a good opportunity.
