I agree, wholeheartedly, with Chris's suggestion of the A720 but if the lad could squeeze (approximately) 30- 35 quid to his budget he should be able to pick up the SX100 IS which has a slightly larger zoom(8MP/10X Zoom/AA batteries) butDoes Nothave a viewfinderButdoes have an Excellent screen for viewing even in bright sunny days
FWIW, I have sold a good number of these camera's to folks for a small(ish) holiday camera and for batteries for the trip I would recommend NIMH rechargeables but definitely take along a four(4)pack of the Engergizer AA Lithium batteries as a customer used them for his A710 and got approximately 1,000 shots from them ..... although,IMHO,I would somewhere around 400-500 shots is more realistic number would be around 500 pics and you can purchase them At These Fine(?) Retailers
