400d + extender + 100-400L???

Hi,
I've just got myself a 100-400 L IS USM for my 400d, (Taking Motorcycle racing photo's)

Just seeing if it's worth getting the 1.4 or 2X Extender?
Reason being is that my wife bought the cheap Jessops 2X copy and the autofocus never worked that well, no surprise really.
Will it work fine or not is the question, I presume it will, but don't want to spend £200 if it's going to be the same.
