Photoshop Elements 6 Question

When I have two RAW files in Photoshop CS2, I can make one dark, the other one lighter, apply a mask and then the gradient tool so that I have, for example a darker sky on a brighter foreground. How would I be able to get this effect in Photoshop Elements 5 or 6?
