One problem with FirstView thus far has been that those posting FirstView images were responsible for their own hosting arrangements, and that meant that over time the picture threads could become patchy, with old images disappearing. Anyway, at long last FirstView has its own dedicated image hosting site. We have enough storage space to host FirstView images for several years at current participation rates, and certainly for the foreseeable future.
So, if you would like to use the site to host your FirstView images you will be contributing directly to the archive, and we should hopefully stand a better chance of preserving the FirstView record for the future. The gallery has its own search facilities, and can be browsed in various ways. However, we do want to maintain the connection to these forums, so if you host your images on the gallery you will still need to then post and link them into the picture threads here in the usual way. Comments may be added directly to pictures in the gallery site, but there is no need for these to be duplicated on the forums, or vice versa - it's just an extra facility. Please feel free to make full use of it.
