I think the main thing is to read the brief, understand it and take a photo that fills the brief.
In this case, "Take a picture that demonstrates that winter is upon us. There are many ways of doing this, so you are not limited to any particular photographic genre. Think about how the world looks a certain way when it is bleedin’ cold outside."
Look at the photo you want to enter and ask yourself, does it show winter? Does it portray what winter is and how it effects us and the world around us.
I think the same thing happened last month, people read the brief but didn't follow it.
As nice as Johns photo is, you've got people there basking in the sun reading books! So unless he's showing the effects of global warming by showing people enjoying the unseasonal weather, personally I don't think it fits the brief.
There's a few other photos that have been entered this month that could be any time of the year and give no clue that it's winter. And that's what this months comp is supposed to be all about!
"How do you know it is Winter?"
................since when did us lot ever let a "brief" get between us and our "artistic license" around here!
