Cambridge meet (June)
      10/05/2007 10:07

For those coming to the meet in Cambridge on Sunday 24th June I was going to spend a day in the city beforehand to see what colleges, attractions, routes etc would be available.

As you know, Cambridge has many colleges with unique features, but some may be inaccessible (exams or simply close on Sundays) and it's simply not possible to do them all justice in one afternoon, so I was wondering if we could have a poll just to gauge the level of interest and we go to the most popular. Most colleges (which are open to the public) do charge an entrance fee (about £3). Most of the colleges are close together and the first four on the list are virtually next door to each other. But visiting Cambridge is not just about the colleges so I think we should save some time for looking at other areas such as Great St Mary's church where you can climb the tower and get a brilliant panorama of the city. Then there's all the activity surrounding the river and parks. So much to do and see
Which colleges do you want to visit?
You may choose many
King's - It is the largest and most spectacular of the college chapel's in Cambridge.
Queens' - Home to the famous wooden Mathematical Bridge.
St John’s - Home to the famous Bridge of Sighs.
Trinity - (In)famous for it's students; princes, spies, poets and prime-ministers
Selwyn
Pembroke
Just a couple I'll leave it to you
None as I have no interest in the architectural delights(?) of the colleges
Another which isn't on the list eg Magdalene (which I think is closed on Sunday's), Churchill (which is a short walk from the centre and is quite modern), Christ's (might be closed on that Sunday), Corpus Christi, Emmanuel (yet another Wren classic), Jesu
