Tried all sorts of compositions as wanted something different. Desaturated rather than mono. Your thoughts would be great. thanks.

I think a trim of the foreground of this image would tighten the composition up. That bare expanse of water acts as a bit of a distraction.
Location has great potential with a super reflection and that leading line on the left.
However there is a great deal going on in this image. I might have gone for a quirky shot with a vertical cut through the arch and incorporating the graffiti, with reflection to its right. Top right quadrant only.
There is also a nice composition on the left side, leading up to the lock gate through the bridge.
Is the graffiti blacked out by you?
I like the shot and agree with the crop suggestion.
thanks for the replies guys. really wasn't sure where to put the reflection and where to crop the bottom and can see why the crop would make sense. only reason i left it like this was it has the path controlling the corner of the shot and seems a little stronger for it. but then like you say there is plenty of cloud. wanted to leave some cloud and didn't want to go too pano.
the black bits are all original.
this composition has been a headache!

Don't want to see the reflected sky, and shame the arch it is so central. Like the desaturated colour and the contrast though.
any better? would go no sky at all but as the brick work above stops where the shot does, it would be too narrow.
tried all sorts of crops and compositions but this was the only one i was happy with. was kneeling on the path with nex5 held above the water.

I would crop the bottom a bit more, the glare is still a distraction.
I know you didn't want to go panoramic but I feel it might work

thanks for the replies guys. only reason didn't want to go pano is that i wanted to challenge myself to find a composition that would work without doing that. think it may be only option. will post a crop once at my pc. thank you all.

I don't think I would have gone quite this far, I would try leaving a small amount of the brighter looking area to include the top of the bridge in the reflection.
shame the wall wasn't higher as would have given much deeper reflection and more space around the bridge opening. have tried all sorts of angles etc and although this is the best one, its still tricky. will post a final crop with a touch of sky, nimbus. thanks again.

Just a little bit more off! About half the distance between the bottom of the frame and the highest point of the bridge will do nicely![]()
ifc1892's crop for me.
