Playing with SWMBO's mother's day flowers.
Does this work?
It is black and white with the yellow 'colour popped', which I need more practice with. It may not be everyones cuppa but I like it.

Yes, I like it except the dark areas are so dark there is only a hint of detail. A touch of fill would help put the flower in context maybe?

Thanks for the advice. Not being a whiz with Photoshop how would i go about adding a touch of fill to the dark areas? I like the stem being almost invisible but would like it to show up enough to give more depth to picture.

You can lift the shadows in a number of ways, depending upon which application you're using. Look for a Levels, a Brightness or even a Shadows slider. This will lift the darkest parts but leave the rest alone. Adjusting an exposure setting won't retain the flower correctly.
