I assume the UK will only get it in black - 12 colours for the lens will be available on the Japanese market.![]()
But. . . .Why?
On APS-C it's only standard, and f/2.4 is a bit meh for a standard lens.
Even covering 35mm a 35mm f/2.4 is hardly fast.
Now. if it was a 35 f/1.4, that would be worth shouting about.

It's cheap. It's light. And if it's as good as my favourite 35mm f2.4, it'll be good.
The timing of this being announced makes life a little complicated for me. I'd just found a place that's still selling the FA 35mm F2 new for about £300 and was on the point of buying one to give me a standard lens view on digital with fixed focal length quality. And half a stop of speed over this new lens, with all that means in terms of light gathering and control over depth of field.
Sometimes life has too many choices.

I bought a copy of the 35mm f2 Samsung variant - called the D-Xenogon - presumably the same lens? However I paid less than £200 new, from memory circa £170. It is a very good lens indeed. I would shop around a bit!The timing of this being announced makes life a little complicated for me. Given that the diagonal of a 35mm film frame is around 42mm I have recently resurrected a Sigma 28 f1.8 lens. It appears, from a few shots on the D2H to be a good choice for a fast standard lens on an APS-C DSLR.
The Pentax offering equates to a 50mm on a film SLR which is a useful general purpose lens, if a little slower than we have become accustomed to. That said, I remember my first "Wide angle" lens was a 35 f2.8 and I didn't think that was slow.
Damien, can you confirm that the lens is FF compatible? Not heard it mentioned or written anywhere else!
It is designated as DA which is designed for APS-C size sensors. Whilst some of the higher end DAs do apparently cover the full 35mm format, I would think it highly unlikely that such a cheap lens would be designed to cover the larger format.
Sorry, my mistake (make a note and take a picture, it doesn't happen very oftenDamien, can you confirm that the lens is FF compatible? Not heard it mentioned or written anywhere else!

DA lenses are designed for 'Pentax digital SLRs', which of course are all APS-C. If you have an MZ-7 you'll be able to control the apertures and you'll have AF etc, but at wide apertures the lens will probably not cover the whole film frame. Sometimes stopping down improves the coverage, but not always. I haven't been able to try this lens yet, so we should assume that it doesn't cover until we can check.
