    Problem with colour after PP

    Hey there guys and gals,

I am having problems with my PP with colour saturation.

on the screenshot above the left image is on Canon's Digital Photo Professional and the right hand side is after it has been converted to jpeg.

here is an enlarged crop at 100%

it also happens when i use my main program Capture 1.
please someone explain what i have completely failed on.

i am now using a NEC monitor for editing and am starting to take my end pictures more seriously and having them printed A3/A2 size and even though i though before my macbook screen was just out for printing now with a calibrated photo monitor its no way near.

1 - Have you checked that the same colour profile is being used by all programmes?

2 - Are the JPEGs exported as sRGB or RGB?

Either of the above can cause the problem

If you're using a wide-gamut monitor you'll see this increase in saturation whenever you use a non colour-managed application (especially with sRGB files). Is the window on the right still DPP, or something else?

If it's not that, more detail is required.

In DPP go to tools->preferences and set the display profile and the workspace profile (this latter can be adjusted also through the Adjustments menu). When you save as JPG tick the include ICC profile box. The jpg and the image in DPP should then look the same. However, if you view the jpg with a non-colour managed application it will try to interpret the colours as sRGB. This is fine if you are working in sRGB but not otherwise.

If you choose to work in RGB and edit the photo colour content then it depends on how good (wide gamut) your monitor is as to actually how different the images will appear if wrongly displayed in sRGB. Toggle the work colour space in adjustments to see the effect. I have a simple laptop which is small gamut and I can only occasionally see an effect of changing my workspace from RGB to sRGB on images with a lot of warm side-lit grass - so some colours in the yellow green are supported that lie outside of sRGB (at least that's how I look at it)

Thanks for your post .. in checking the setting instructions - I just found that DPP for some reason had stopped using my custom monitor calibration!
